Craig is a commercial lawyer with expertise in commercial contracts, mergers and acquisitions, business structuring, commercial property, forestry, overseas investment and New Zealand’s climate change laws, including the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

Craig joined Bay Law Office as a partner in 2016. He has been practising since 2000, initially with a national law firm.

Craig advises clients on a wide range of commercial contracts and business issues, including drafting contracts of all types, such as shareholder agreements, forestry rights, commercial leases and long-term supply agreements. His particular areas of expertise include advising on forest investments, management and operational arrangements, and including helping clients to understand their ETS obligations and to maximise their opportunities.

Craig's clients have ranged from medium-sized businesses, large corporates, central and local government organizations, charities and other types of entities.

  • Advising forestry investors and advisors on all aspects of the Emissions Trading Scheme, including interpretation of the law, product development and contract implementation
  • Advising a global wood processor and manufacturer on the sale of its shares in a substantial New Zealand based wood processing company, involving navigating Overseas Investment Office (OIO) and Commerce Commission consent processes
  • Advising forestry businesses on forest acquisitions and sales, including freehold, leases and forestry rights
  • Advising property developers and investors in relation to selling, purchasing, leasing and construction of commercial properties
  • Acting for vendors and purchasers of various SME businesses and guiding them through the sales process
  • Advising a manufacturer of industrial products on its supply agreements with key customers
  • Successfully completing many OIO consent applications, as well as negotiating and settling investigations / disputes with the OIO
